Description
This easy skillet dinner is a perfect blend of crispy fried potatoes and savory smoked Polish sausage. With just a few ingredients and one pan, you get bold flavor and hearty comfort food the whole family will enjoy.
Ingredients
-
1 lb smoked beef Polish sausage, sliced into rounds
-
4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and diced
-
1 small onion, diced
-
2 tbsp olive oil or butter
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
Optional: paprika, garlic powder, chopped parsley
Instructions
Heat 1 tablespoon oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add sliced beef sausage and cook for 5–7 minutes until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Add the remaining oil to the skillet and toss in the diced potatoes. Spread them out in an even layer and let them cook undisturbed for 5 minutes.
Stir potatoes, add diced onions, and season with salt, pepper, and any optional spices you like (paprika, garlic powder). Continue cooking for another 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and tender.
Return the sausage to the skillet and stir everything together. Cook for another 2–3 minutes to heat through.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
-
Sausage choice: Smoked Polish sausage (kielbasa) brings depth and a slightly garlicky, smoky flavor. You can substitute with turkey or beef kielbasa, or even andouille for a spicier kick.
-
Potatoes: Use Yukon Gold, Russet, or red potatoes for best texture. Parboil or microwave briefly before frying for faster cooking and better crispiness.
-
Add-ins: Onions, bell peppers, or garlic add extra flavor and color.
-
Oil matters: Use a high-smoke point oil like canola, vegetable, or avocado oil to get the perfect fry.
-
Pan preference: A well-seasoned cast iron skillet delivers the best sear on both the potatoes and sausage.
-
Serving tips: Great on its own, or serve with mustard, hot sauce, or a dollop of sour cream for extra flavor.
